During year three, children are immensely curious, interested in learning about themselves, and their feelings. Communication is very important to understanding the world around them. It is a great time to learn about people, objects, and how things work.
With High Reach Learning, A Passport Program Steps to Success, experiences emerge from children’s interests. The curriculum provides a solid foundation from which hands on experiences and explorations can be built and extended upon, according to the interests of the children.
The curriculum focuses on how children, at three and beyond, know and wonder about things; their natural curiosity is captured within the curriculum through the use of K-W-L.
What children know,
What children want to know,
What children have learned.
K-W-L charts document children’s learning through themes or topics. It is posted so that children, parents, and teachers can all share this powerful communication tool.
We will plan experiences that set the stage for three year old discovery, exploration through K-W-L, and child’s play.
The Young Child as an Extension of the Family
Family, child development centers, and school represent the primary environments of which young children grow and develop. The family is the child’s first and best teacher and can provide us with important information. Knowing your child’s unique learning abilities, personality, values, cultural practices, and wonderful interests, is very important to us. Here at Smart Kids’ families are welcome, have unlimited access to their children, and are encouraged to participate in all Smart Kids’ activities and experiences.
